Yard & Coop seemed at first to have missed the peak of the dirty food trend, but by focusing solely on fried chicken, the place has carved out its own little niche and seems busy enough on most days to survive alongside naughty neighbours Almost Famous and Luck, Lust, Liquor & Burn.

The main event at Yard & Coop is the regulation buttermilk fried chicken, served as either breast or thigh with fries and a choice of sauces. The gravy and curry sauce rival those of your favourite chip shop whilst the Bourbon BBQ dip is a kick-ass little number.

Alternatively, the monkey balls are little pieces of buttermilk gold and their accompanying sauces are distinct and tasty, with other menu highlights seeing the Parma Bird burger (chicken breast wrapped in parma ham, in a brioche) and the Yakety Wrap go down way too easily.

But is this a bar or a restaurant? The place is big enough to just come on in and prop up the bar which has a wide selection of beer, wine and cocktails on the go, the only danger is you’ll get tempted into some tasty chicken due to the glorious smell alone.
